Media orgs comes forward to help Wakka fire victims

ITANAGAR, Dec 26: Arunachal Press Club (APC), Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ) and Arunachal Electronic Media Association (AEMA) is organizing a donation camp at Akash Deep main gate, Itanagar on Dec 27 for Wakka fire victims between 10 am to 4 pm.
On the first day of the camp today at APC near Tennis Ground IG Park, under the theme "Giving is Gaining for the Wakka Fire victims", around Rupees Seventy Thousand have been received along with relief materials.
The donation campaign has been initiated with sole purpose to assist those families whose houses has been reduced to ashes, rendering more than 100 families homeless. A 70 years old lady Bangman Gangsa was charred to death during the fire accident.
Arunachal Press Club, President APC Chopa Cheda has appealed the people of the state to generously contribute for the fire victims.
"It is our moral duty to help each other where hundreds of people are suffering immensely in such a chilly winter'" added Cheda.
The donation camp is supported by president APC Chopa Cheda, Parliamentary Secretary for UD, Town planning and Housing cum Capital Complex local MLA Techi Kaso, Senior Journalist Bengia Augung and AEMA President Mukul Pathak, APUWJ president Amar Sangno and Rido Tabio, a businessman who had also contributed on the first day.
While giving his contribution towards fire affected families of Wakka Village at APC, Kaso, appreciated the presidents of the three organizations and the Press fraternity of the state for their initiative to assist the needy.
All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has appreciated the press fraternity for launching donation drive to extend help to Wakka village fire victims. AAPSU vice president Meje Taku came forward with donations.
Rijiju flags off 3 ambulances, says top priority to road connectivity
SEPPA, Dec 26: Union MoS for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday flagged off three ambulances and inaugurated an X-Ray machine for Health Department of the district at General Ground here.
Of the three ambulances, two were donated by IOCL and one by NFL under their CSR programme. The X-Ray machine was also donated by NFL.
One ambulance each is meant for Pipu PHC, Bameng CHC and the District Hospital, Seppa respectively. The digital X-Ray machine was donated to the District Hospital.
Speaking after the brief flagging off programme, Rijiju highlighted the initiative of BJP-led NDA Government at Centre for the welfare of the people and in making the country free from corruption.
Terming the demonetization a historic event and crusade against black money, corruption, counterfeit notes, and terrorism, the Union minister appealed to the people to extend their support to the government in its fight against corruption.
Rijiju also said that he has accorded top priority to road communication, stating that no development is possible without better road communication.
He also disclosed about upcoming and sanctioned projects for East Kameng district. Some of the upcoming projects included roads and bridges, IT, education, socio-cultural projects such as PMGSY and NLCPR roads, and construction of classrooms, community halls, Nyokum and Sarok festival grounds, he said.
Rijiju said he had a dream to connect every village of the state by road by 2019.
He exhorted the youth and intellects and elite groups such as EKSWCO to don the role of messenger of social awareness and progressive development. He urged them to be vigilantes against corruption and poor implementation of any projects. However, simultaneously, he cautioned them not to become hindrance and obstacle to any developing works. He urged the public and youth in particular to cooperate and become a part of the development. He pinned hope that one day Arunachal Pradesh will become one of the most developed States of the country.
The ambulances and X-Ray machine, in particular, were long-felt demands of the health department of the district and the matter was originally persuaded to Rijiju by former DC Sandeep Kr. Singh.

‘DA provides relief to Wakka fire victims’
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The victims of recent fire accident in Wakka village in Longding districts were provided with blanket, rice, utensils etc. by the district administration while a Relief Distribution Committee has been formed to store relief items and distribute them among the affected people.
Essential relief materials, like 100 blankets, 50 bags rice, necessary utensils etc were distributed among the affected people on December 23 and 24, according government report.
Water tanker of the PHED Department has been pressed into service to provide safe drinking water to the affected people. Besides, four trucks have been requisitioned by the District Administration as requested by the villagers for transportation of house materials from nearby villages and jungle for construction of houses.
Properties lost in fire are being assed by the Damage Assessment Committee. Elaborate security arrangement has been made to avert any untoward incident at the fire accident site.
A meeting with chief of the Wakka village and affected people was held on December 23 and 24 to prevent occurrence of such disaster in future by the district administration.
Earlier, on receiving the information about the incident, Circle Officer of Wakka NL Naam, FO (Disaster Management) V Mitte and SI KP Singh with his team of 12th Bn NDRF, Doimukh, who were in Pongchau in connection with disaster awareness programme, rushed to the spot following direction of Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Gupta and provided immediate relief materials, including blankets, rice, salt etc. and first aids. They were the first to reach the spot with essential relief materials and first aids.
Chief Secretary Shakuntala Gamlin immediately called up DC Longding Deputy Commissioner and took stock of the situation. She had directed the DC to provide relief materials, like food, safe drinking water, blankets, warm clothes and utensils immediately.
She also directed the DC to ensure that the injured were given immediate medical attention. Accordingly, the Deputy Commissioner, who was on tour to Chubom block during the incident, visited the village next day and assured all possible assistances as per relief norms to the fire affected people.
Fire tender was called in from the neighboring Tirap to douse. But the fire quickly spread and destroyed the houses as it were made of bamboo and Toko pata leaves.
The elderly 77-year-old woman Bangman Gangsa, who died in the fire, was the wife of late Gagang Gangsa.
Meanwhile, Agriculture and DoTCL Minister Wangki Lowang dispatched 30 quintals rice and 50 woolen blankets on December 24.
Lowang appealed to all sections of people to extend their helping hands and support to the victims in this hour of crisis.
Secretary of Society for Promotion of Nocte Indigenous Culture (SoPNIC) Denhang Bosai expressed his deep anguish and sadness over frequent fire mishaps, especially in Wakka and Lazu.
"Our people never seem to learn from their past mistakes. Wakka and Lazu are known for unfortunate fire mishaps. In 2014, Wakka village was partly destroyed by an inferno in which many dwelling houses were completely gutted. But still the villagers continued to construct their thatched houses closed to each other. Wakka and Lazu have enough scopes to settle some families in new habitation areas so that the houses in the original villages can be constructed sufficiently apart to prevent recurrence of fire accidents," he said. Christmas celebrated with great enthusiasm
ITANAGAR. Dec 26: Arunachal Pradesh with large Christian population joined rest of the world in celebrating Christmas with great enthusiasm and religious fervour throughout the state on Sunday.
At Sagalee, former chief minister Nabam Tuki joined the GHS School fraternity and local populace in celebrating Christmas in a befitting manner. He hoped that the festivity would spring Lord Jesus's blessings to meet aspirations of one and all.
"Education is the panacea to all ills confronting our tribal society. That is why my Govt had attached top priority to education sector," he had said during an inspection of ongoing massive infrastructure development of the school on Saturday.
"The results published in local daily on Saturday to recruit more PGTs and TGTs to meet essential requirements of schools all over the state reflected the past Govt's bold initiative," he told the teachers and students, adding the improving infrastructure was another step taken by the Govt despite fund constraint aimed at speedy expansion of education for the greater welfare of the state.
Teachers are the makers of future citizens of India, Tuki, also local legislator, said and exhorted them to prove themselves worthy of their noble profession. He advised the students to not waste their time but devote in studies for a better career.
At Tajgi, addressing thousands who had joined the joint celebration at Baptist Church, Upper Yachuli, local MLA-cum-Youth Affairs Parliamentary Secretary Likha Saaya termed Christianity as the true religion for leading kindly light through right teachings.
"Forgive, forget, shake off all hatred today and take a vow with pure thought process to widen human relations for a better future," Saaya said, and exhorted all not to discriminate anyone on religious ground. Religions are all the same but prayer with a pure heart alone could help to realize divinity, he said.
Referring to reported misunderstanding among locals on cardamom cultivation, he said that mother earth has everything to meet everyone's need but not greed and pleaded all farmers to stand united for the growth of high potential agri-horticulture sector.
Responding to the plea of locals, Saaya announced Rs 15 lakh from his MLALAD fund for building a commonly used approach road to benefit the denizens.

National Consumer Day observed
ZIRO, Dec 26: The Neeti Society Ziro (NS) in collaboration with Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs (LM&CA), Lower Subansiri has celebrated National Consumer Day 2016 by organizing a day-long consumer awareness programme on the theme "alternative disputes resolution for quick redressal of consumer disputes" at Govt. TPD Middle School, Ziro.
District Consumer Protection Officer cum Assistant Controller LM&CA, Ziro HH Atung highlighted various provisions of Consumer Protection Act 1986. Atung suggested the public to exercise their rights and duties as enshrined in the Act by taking necessary help from the department of LM&CA as well as District Consumer Forum that exist in all district HQs.
He appreciated Neeti Society for organizing the programme which aimed to disseminate the message of consumer protection and their rights to school children, teachers and the general public.
Debia Tana, Inspection, LM&CA, Ziro as the resource person clarified the doubts and confusion of consumers related to general problems faced by the people in their day to day transaction as well as their rights and duties. He also dwelt at length on the importance of Legal Metrology and its services towards protection of consumers.
While highlighting provisions of Package Commodities Rules, he related some tips of dos and don'ts. Insisting people not to compromise on quality of products, he also briefed on importance of hallmark, ISI, Agmark etc.
He further informed that department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs has already opened State Consumer Helpline at its HQ office at Naharlagun for giving guidance to consumers. In case of any grievances, a consumer can seek suggestion or guidance from this Helpline by contacting its toll free No. 1800-345-360, he added.
Tage Richo, headmaster Govt. TPD ME School, Ziro suggested students, teachers and other public present to disseminate the knowledge earned from the programme to their family and friends so that everybody become aware of their consumer rights.
Earlier, Neeti Society chairman in his keynote address highlighted on importance of National Consumer Day and suggested for taking help of the Consumer Courts in the event confronting unfair trade practices.
National Consumer Day was also organized at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Tezu by the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, Lohit.
Attending the programme, Tezu Sunpura MLA Dr. Mahesh Chai spoke about the importance of observing the day to create awareness among the consumer their rights and responsibilities.
DC Danish Ashraf interacted with the students and made them aware about the rights and duties of consumers.
GB, Tamlanagar Soloi Ngadong shared his practical experience regarding difficulty faced by consumer.

Promote creativity in students: DC exhorts teachers

Teachers should play a leading role in making classroom learning innovative and interesting." exhorted Deputy Commissioner, Lohit Danish Ashraf during the valedictory session of the "Creative Workshops for Enhancing Reading skills" organised by the Lohit District Education Dept, jointly with the Lohit Youth Library Network, ViTAES, Tezu & the Untitled Arts Foundation, Bangaluru. "Learning should result in confidence building and this can be done very well with theatre activities in schools", he said lauding all the participants of the workshops for their wonderful performances of skits, puppetry, poem recitation & storytelling, put up during the function.
He expressed his profound thanks to Ms Anuradha, Artistic Director, Untitled Arts Foundation, for taking considerable troubles to come all the way from Bangaluru, wholly at their expense, to promote reading habits of Arunachali students and extended his hearty invitation to them for organizing more workshops any time in future. He was also all praise for the Lohit Youth Library activists for their continuous contribution to spread reading habits across remote areas.
Mana Linggi, Deputy Director of School Education, Lohit, thanked Anuradha, a well-known theatre-educator of Karnataka & Commonwealth Scholar in Theatre, for spiritedly sharing with the children of Lohit, her rich experiences of working with youth in UK and India.
Linggi gave details of the 4 workshops held at Wakro & Tezu, targeting students of class VI-VIII at the middle school level and cl. 9-12 at the senior level. The 3 days sessions at both places enabled the participants to better their reading, comprehension and imagination skills, by the use of puppetry, acting and performing techniques. The open-ended approach of the sessions made the entire workshop fun and confidence-building. This was quite visible in the way the young actors performed and brought new imaginative endings to old stories, winning the warm appreciation of the DC and other guests. The team included, Saadrusha, a 11 year-old volunteer, who gave flowing recitations & Supratim Bhattacharya, a gifted young photographer, who documented and guided the students to bring out their best performances.
Expressing her profound happiness in the successful outcomes of the workshops, Anuradha, said that the workshops in Lohit & Lower Dibang Valley were an enriching experience. She pointed out that Art channelizes mental energies to enhance reading skills. Hence a teacher need only facilitate the environment to promote learning by children. "Art and Theatre teaches us team work, to adjust and respond to the challenges in life. We learn to use what we have, instead of lamenting about what we don't." Complimenting the amazingly talented Arunachali children, for their wonderful colour combinations, team work and coming up with solutions, in the face of sudden challenges, she said teachers must support and use these talents to improve the students' learning levels. Anuradha offered to conduct a workshop for teachers that could promote these objectives.
Pointing to the Bangaluru Education Dept's orders to all Govt. schools to permit NGOs to conduct free skill-development activities on saturdays, Anuradha appealed to the District Education Dept to introduce a system for enabling students to access public libraries weekly, so that their reading and comprehension skills get enhanced.
Applauding the participants, Supratim Bhattacharya, said their creativity should be guided to enhance their confidence levels and to face the world.
At Wakro, the Jt. BDO, S.K. Das, who attended the valedictory sessions, congratulated the participants for their enthusiastic presentations.
DRCHO, Lohit, Dr S. Nayil, lauding the efforts of ASSET, Wakro in supporting reading campaigns of APNE Library & mini-libraries across the circle, appealed to the teachers and parents to encourage their children to benefit from them.
Earlier participants of class VI-VIII presented skits, while cl. 9-12 presented puppetry shows, both innovatively narrating common folktales with modern endings. Senior library activist Keshilu Tayang, class 12, did a spirited story telling demonstration, bringing out the unique enchanting features of the Lohit Youth Library Movement. Solina Khambrai, class 12 at Tezu and Asuni Khamblai, cl X, at Wakro narrated how they benefited from this innovative workshop. Saadrusha presented a carton of library books from Untitled Arts Foundation for the readers of libraries in Lohit & L. Dibang Valley.
A Workshop & demonstration sessions were also conducted in Roing at Abali Youth Library, Dibang Youth Library & Intaya Library, which benefited in all 200 students. The sessions in Roing were supported by RIWATCH, Roing.
DFO calls for protection of wildlife

ITANAGAR, Dec 26: DFO of Mouling National Park Boken Pao urged people living close to the park to protect and preserve the wildlife species in the park.
Addressing the public in a meeting to generate awareness among local people on the importance protecting and preserving wildlife at Kaying circle, DFO Pao termed the park a treasury of wildlife in the state, and appealed them to take responsibility in protecting it.
Narrating mankind's relationship with animals, Pao urged them not kill wildlife for selfish reason. He indicated about the probability of presence of tiger in the park.
Conservator of Forests D Gogoi, who also is the nodal officer of State CAMPA, explained the gathering of the need to conserve forests and environment.
The Park established in 1986 covering an area of 483 Sqkm both in Siang and Upper Siang district is home to various mammals, reptiles and birds species.
A team of resource persons from State CAMPA, Itanagar and Kasser Valley Welfare Organisation, Seppa also took part in it.
The resource persons highlighted the potentials of the park as a future tourist destination and related activities. The team of resource persons urged the villagers to stop taking wildlife meat and suggested them to take up poultry, pig and goat farming to reduce dependence and pressure on wildlife meat.
Citing the example of Black Neck Crane that flock to Tawang attracting tourists , they said Kaying could also be tourist destination one day because of Mouling National Park. The villagers were also advised to protect and preserve medicinal plants.

Semifinal line up completes
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The line up for the semifinals of the 15th Tadar Tang State Level Football Tournament, 2016 has been completed with West Siang and Capital Complex joining Kra-Daadi and Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) in the semi final two matches that will be played on December 27.
West Siang stormed into semifinal defeating Upper Subansiri 2-0 in the third quarterfinal match played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun on Monday.
The match was evenly poised until West Siang's winger Joken Ete scored in 52nd minutes. Joken again scored in 73th minute beating two defenders before pushing the ball into the net.
Capital Complex stunned five-time champion Lower Subansiri 3-0. Dungda Pui put his team Capital Complex ahead in 27th minute with a low driven shot beating LS keeper Tage Pilya. Dari Lugu scored the second goal for Cpital Complex in 34th minute taking the chance of a goalmouth melee.
Lower Subansiri started strongly in second half creating many scoring opportunities but luck did not favor the team.
Capital Complex goalkeeper Gyammar Sankio made some brilliant saves for his team.
In-form CC defender Biri Pada scored the third goal in 69th minute from a penalty kick.
Lower Subansiri could have reduced the margin had they converted their chances.
Kra-Daadi will take on West Siang at 11AM in the first semifinal and Capital Complex face Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) in the second semifinal on Tuesday.
On Sunday, Kra-Daadi beat Changlang 2-0 and Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) thrashed West Kameng 5-0, which also included a self goal, to become first two teams to reach semifinal.
Training on digital payment
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: A training programme on cashless transaction or digital payment were organized by Tawang district administration Zomkhang Hall here on Monday; wherein a huge number of participants, including Govt. employees, GBs, PRI leaders, representatives from various NGOs and traders were trained on the processes of e-transaction.
Deputy Commissioner Sang Phuntsok spoke about Government's initiative to promote digital payment for day to day transactions and how the use of technology will help in bringing transparency and accountability in the system. He requested each and everyone to share the knowledge and information they have gained during the training to their fellow citizens, family members and friends.
Chief Manager of Tawang SBI Nandu Lal Sharma, who imparted the training, dealt at length on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI), USSD ie Unstructured Supp. Service Data (*999#), Aadhar Enabled Payments, e-Wallets and Rupay/Debit /Credit/Prepaid cards. Detailed description of use of Internet Banking from registration process, amount transfer etc. was demonstrated through powerpoint presentation.
While explaining about the benefits and features of POS, the Chief Manager requested the traders to adopt the digital mode by bringing in use of same for daily transactions. He, however, requested everyone to be aware of fraudsters and take necessary precautions by refraining from divulging details.
Doubts raised by participants were clarified during the interactive session and forms for Internet Banking were also distributed.
A video demonstrating the security features of new Rs.500 and Rs.2000 currency notes was also showed for the benefits of the participants.
Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen also convened a meeting all the Bank Managers of Ziro and APCS officers at his office chamber on cashless transactions on Monday.
The deputy commissioner dwelt at length underscoring the importance of Digital India and cashless transactions. Awareness-cum-school safety prog. on natural and man-made disaster
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: A week-long community awareness-cum-school safety programme on natural and man-made disaster was jointly conducted by the District Disaster Management Authority, Longding and 12th BN NDRF, Doimukh for teachers and students, officials of all line departments, NGOs, CBOs, Chiefs, GBs, Panchayat members and traders association at Longding, Kanubari and Pongchau from Dec 20 to 26 last.
During the programme, FO (Disaster Management), Vijay Mitte elaborated on different types of disasters and vulnerability of the district.
The NDRF team led by Inspector/GD, Bhaskar Kumar gave demonstration on basic survival skills during disaster. The focus of the programme was core lifesaving skills and essential emergency procedures with greater emphasis on practical hands-on engagements during disaster.
At Kanubari, earthquake simulation exercise was carried out to demonstrate on search and rescue procedures followed by the NDRF during any disaster while, at Pongchau, CO, L Naam urged all the participants to cooperate with the team and take advantage of the programme which will be of immense use during any exigency in future. Similar programme was also conducted at Longding.
Leaflets on safety tips and Dos and Don'ts on earthquake, fire, landslide, cyclone and flood were also distributed to the participants.
AAPSU donation camp for Wakka
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has decided to launch donation drive on Tuesday at Akashdeep Complex & Bank Tinali here, Takar Complex, Naharlagun and Nirjuli, in front of NERIST gate for the fire victims of Wakka village.
AAPSU General Secretary Tobom Dai has appealed to the people of capital complex to come out and generously donate in order to help the fellow Arunachalees in this hour of crisis.
He also informed that some of the executive members of AAPSU have already reached Wakka to provide initial help to the fire victims. They have distributed rice, blankets and utensils.
17 acres of land freed from encroachers
PASIGHAT, Dec 26: East Siang district administration on Monday carried out a massive eviction drive in the south-eastern part of the existing Pasighat Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) amid tight security of magistrate, police and central paramilitary forces.
According to official sources, all unauthorized structures were removed and 17 acres of land, which was earmarked for ALG in 2014, were made free from the occupation of encroachers. DIPRO
Students, youths take out anti-drug rally
NAMSAI, Dec 26: With an aim to create awareness on drug abuse, school students, village youths besides members of mahila mandals and cultivators club of NongtawShyam Village took out an anti-drug rally, which was jointly organized by the NongtawShyam Youth Association and NongtowShyam Mahila Mandal here on Saturday last.
During the rally which began from Nongtow Khamyang new village and culminated at Nongtow Khamyang old village, the participants shouted slogans protesting against the rise in sale and use of drugs among youths and demanded a crackdown on drug peddlers and sale of drugs, alcohol and ganja.
Later, a meeting was also held at the premises of the Youth Club, NongtawShyam village which was attended by GB, ASM, GPM, students, youths and mahila mandals members wherein, the organization urged the district administration to take up initiatives to make society free of drugs and alcoholic substances.
Thousands benefits from health camp
ITANAGAR Dec 26: Over 2,500 people benefitted from a series of medical health camps recently conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board at various places for the registered workers of the board.
During the camps which were conducted at Kombo, Tato, Kerang, Tirbin under West Siang and Ompoli, Poma, Jollang under Papum Pare, Dr. L Gadi and Dr. Tomar Kamki along with supporting staffs screened the patients for eye problems, hepatitis-B and C and diabetes. Vaccination and blood sugar test were also conducted.
Good Governance Day observed
PASIGHAT, Dec 26: Good Governance Day was observed at Pasighat to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpaee, who turned 92 on December 25.
As a part of the observation, local MLA Kaling Moyong along with party functionaries paid tributes to the veteran party leader and attended coordination meet at the party office.
In his brief speech, Moyong highlighted aims and objectives of observing the good governance day since 2014.
The MLA along with Mondal President Obit Tamuk visited the Pasighat General Hospital and interacted with the patients. He distributed fruits and prayed for their speedy recovery.
Later in the day, Moyong along with party members visited all churches in and around Pasighat township and exchanged greetings on the auspicious occasion of Christmas. He also offered prayers for wellbeing of humanity and gifted cakes. DIPRO
Org seeks CBI enquiry
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The All Nyishi Youth Organization (ANYO) has sought CBI enquiry into the reported Rs 1300 crores, suspected to be black money, deposited in 15 bank accounts in the state.
In its memorandum to the Governor, the organization demanded for open tender and proper execution of work order, SADA (state annual development agenda) 2016-17 according to Arunachal Pradesh District Base Entrepreneurship Act-2015.
Students seeks BSNL network
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The Kargu Kardi Students' Union (KKSU) has in a representation to the General Manager BSNL, Itanagar on Monday appealed to him to initiate early steps to ensure regular service of BSNL network at Liromoba, Darak, Yomcha and Tirbin by making fuel supply available regularly and posting an operator in the said areas.
Meeting on EPBS
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: District Electoral Officer cum Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Mamata Riba convened a meeting on electronically transmitted postal ballot system (EPBS) 2016 with Army and Para-military personnel at Hayuliang on Saturday. The objective was to step up IEC interface with service voters posted in remote and border District of Anjaw.
The meeting was attended by AEROs of 45-Hayuliang (ST) Assembly Constituency and officers of the Indian Army, GREF and ITBP. Addressing the meeting Riba stated that presence of the military and para-military will highly beneficial from the digital initiation and asked the service voters to come forward to participate in democratic process through E-Ballots.
A power point presentation on registration of Service Voters in the ECI web portal was highlighted by Master Trainer S.K.Singh, Lecturer, District Resource Centre, Khupa wherein he stressed that the successful registration of the same would enable the Service Voters to cast their vote using EPBS system from anywhere outside their constituency.
NHM review meeting
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The Siang District Health Society (NHM) under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Rahul Singh held a one day District level Co-ordination-cum-Review meeting at DC's Conference Hall, Pangin on Dec 26.
The meeting was attended by ZPC A. Jerang, DMO Dr. R. Darung, DRCHO Dr. T. Mize and others.
Singh called for improving the service delivery as well timely reporting and uploading of data.
Moreover, the DC assured to extend all possible help for improvement of health service in the entire district. (DIPRO)

Humanitarian crisis
The state of Manipur is in utter chaos due to the two month old economic blockade
imposed by Naga group. United Naga Council (UNC) has blocked NH-
State government refused to budge and has gone ahead with the move to create the
new districts. Further Manipur govt arrested members of UNC which aggrieved the Naga
group. The two month old economic blockade has deeply angered the people of valley.
They have launched counter blockade and has cut off all road leading to hill districts
of Manipur. Many Naga families living in Imphal are stranded and not able to move
out. Naga group is refusing to lift blockade till their demands which include release
of arrested UNC leaders and stopping the creation of new districts are met. On the
other hand Manipur government first want blockade to be lifted before any talks can
be done. With both side refusing to budge from their respective position, the centre
will have to intervene at some point. MoS Home Kiren Rijiju recently visited state
and called for an end to the blockade. Centre is also rushing in additional paramilitary

I greatly appreciate the decision of the West Bengal State Government in expanding
the rhino habitat beyond the Jaldapara and Gorumara sanctuaries to other adjoining
suitable habitats in North Bengal. This is a monumental decision with respect to
successful conservation effort having long term future implications. Every natural
habitat has its own carrying capacity and overcrowding of a specific habitat with
an extremely precious and endangered species like the majestic one-

The River Murderers
Dear editor,
For a two weeks break, I came to stay with my family who resides near the pitiful scrapheap Chandanagar River. I was seriously disgusted by the sight of the river and I wondered if the people of Chandanagar were inspired by the Delhiites who "killed" the Yamuna river.
It was not surprising when I got to know that my family like everybody else living nearby the river threw their garbage directly into the river.
When I asked "why?" they replied, "everybody does it", an answer that any typical person living near the Chandanagar River would have given.
So, I decided to go and find out the garbage pickup or any sort of proper trash collection in Chandanagar area (I don't count that pile of trash lying near the Chandanagar market as a "proper" trash collection) but unfortunately I couldn't find any. Isn't it an obligatory function of the municipal corporation to provide for proper garbage pickup?
I'm sure they must be busy somewhere! Anyways, my question to my beloved people
of Chandanagar is-

Cashless economy

This is regarding cashless economy in Arunachal Pradesh.
It will be very tough to make a state like Arunachal Pradesh a cashless economy because some people are well educated while others are thumb users still now. We live in a state where some rural / village people don't even know how to use a mobile phone and how to operate the ATM cards.

Turning an economy where the almost all of the transactions in the villages and in rural areas of Arunachal Pradesh are done by cash, it would be an uphill task to go cashless.
In this way, the main problems of cashless economy in Arunachal Pradesh are:-
1. Poverty: People are unable to buy smart phones or Laptops. Having smart phone or laptop is the 1st step towards online transaction.
2. Illiterate or Insufficient knowledge of English internet. Many people posses' smart phones or laptop but they don't know how to operate it as English is required.
3. Many people don't know about the modern banking and others online services.
4. Internet speeds is very poor in Arunachal Pradesh and most of the villages and rural places have no network and internet facilities.
5. In rural areas, 70% people do not have bank account. If they do have, they don't know how to use the debit and credit cards.
6. People are insecure about online transaction.
To be a cashless economy state, the first step is to enhance living standards. The second is opening bank account through Jan Dan Yojana. Unless people start opening bank account, cashless economy is not possible. Providing electronic swapping machines to small shopkeepers along with training to operate it. The state Government should provide phone connectivity in every village and increasing the internet facilities.
If a cashless economy is properly implemented, then the associations, unions of Arunachal Pradesh will not be able to run anymore because its main source is cash donation.
If the state government does not take necessary step, Arunachal Pradesh will not
be able to transform into a cashless economy till the next 20-
